Psych Minor Requirements

Five Lower-division courses (The Pre-Psych requirements)

  • Math 3: Precalculus (or equivalent)
  • Psychology 1: Introduction to Psychology
  • Psychology 2: Introduction to Psychological Statistics
  • Psychology 3: Research Methods in Psychology
  • Psychology 10: Introduction to Developmental Psychology

Five Upper-Division Courses

The five upper-division courses must be taken out of at least two different subfields:

  • Developmental (courses #100-119)
  • Cognitive (courses #120-139)
  • Social (courses #140-159)
  • Personality (courses #160-179)

The Psychology minor does not require the UCSC Senior Comprehensive Requirement.

How to Declare a Minor in Psychology

To declare the Psychology minor students use the Declaration of Major/Minor petition, which is available at their college office. Students should first meet with their college, second with their major department, and finally with the Psychology Department for advising and approval. A minor in Psychology is declared once the 5 lower-division courses are completed

Note: Students must be declared Pre-Psychology to enroll in Psychology 3, Research Methods, and Psychology 10, Introduction to Developmental Psychology. Students interested in declaring a minor in Psychology should declare Pre-Psychology until they complete their required lower- division required courses. LETTER GRADE NOTE: Courses graded D or F (or transfer courses with a C-, D, or F) may NOT be used to satisfy major/minor requirements. Also, please refer to the Disqualification Policy.
