Honors in the Major

Honors in the major are awarded to graduating seniors whose UCSC psychology narrative evaluations are judged to be 'outstanding' by a committee of psychology faculty. To receive honors in the major, students must have a consistent record of excellent or outstanding grades and narrative evaluations in all their psychology courses. Transfer courses and independent study courses (191-199) are discounted since it is difficult to make a comparative rating.

Highest honors in the major are reserved for students with consistently outstanding narratives and honors-level performance on a senior thesis. Honors in the major are separate from and not the same as honors in the Senior Comprehensive Exam.

Honors are not awarded in the minor.

All psychology majors are automatically reviewed for honors during the quarter in which they graduate from UCSC. Students must apply for graduation on the student portal by the campus deadline in order to be reviewed for honors. Click on the "Apply to Graduate" link in the "Academic Progress" menu of the student portal. Refer to quarterly deadline dates in the Schedule of Classes.
