General Major Requirements The Psychology Major There are two options for the Psychology major: the General Major or the Intensive Major. All majors share the same prerequisite lower-division courses, but differ in the upper-division required course work. Both sets of major requirements lead to the Bachelor of Arts degree. The Senior Comprehensive Requirement may be satisfied with an upper-division seminar. The Minor in Psychology has the same lower-division requirements, but differs at the upper-division level. It does not require a Senior Comprehensive Requirement. General Major Requirements Effective Fall 2006 Five lower-division courses (The Pre-Psych requirements)
Eight courses are required (Seven psychology upper-division courses and one course outside of the major) For more specific information on requirements, go to the psychology listing in the UCSC Catalog. EIGHT upper-division courses are required for the major as follows: one course must be from "outside of the major," one course must be a psychology seminar, and the remaining six courses must be taken in any three of the four subfields (i.e., at least one course must be completed in each subfield). Independent Studies courses One Psychology course numbered 193 (Field Study) and 194 (Advanced Research) may be used for completion of the major requirements in a corresponding area of study.
